Gulargambone
Today we are leaving for Gulargambone. I am pretty excited about this, I wonder what is going to happen on this trip. Will
I be able to help Charles out with the freedom ride. I am on this freedom ride
because I want to make a difference, I want to give the Aboriginals the rights
they deserve. I want to be able to convince the other white people to respect
the aborigines at the least. We leave at 9:15 Sunday morning, which is today.
On our way I hear over the radio people talking about what we are doing. We
arrive at our destination at around 11:30. It is said that only a particular
type of aborigines are allowed. This town is very small with only one café and pub.
Everyone was impressed with our interviews and we were given approval to go on
reserve for an hour which is better then nothing if you think of it. We got to
speak to Mr and Mrs Baxter they are quite old but in fact very interesting. The
cops in this town are very much disliked, not many of them accept what we are
doing although they cant do anything about it because the freedom ride is a
peaceful protest and is educating others on our poor living conditions. We are
doing this to bring attention to the poor living conditions and their lack of
human rights. We hope to point out the social judgment between the aboriginals
and the white people. We also aspired to support the aboriginals themselves to
fight that racist comments and actions that they received from the white
residents.

Be excited for the trip, don't question yourself saying"can you help Charles" you will be able to do it, we all will be! Everyone on the ride is here for the same reason to make a difference to the mistreatment of aboriginal people! I am so glad to see you enthusiasm to the trip and to making a difference, we will get there and Aboriginal people will be seen as people! It is a cute little town though which is great, but it was very easy to see that the town hated the police officers. Anyway good work sweet heart, good luck! -Judith Rich (Jade)
ReplyDeleteWhen we arrived here, i felt pleased with the feed back we gained from the locals, knowing that we could be giving people rights to equal rights, every protest and survey, was a step closer the freedom of many innocent people across the country. Every town was a new experience us protesting was a horrific experience, every town had there different opinions, though i new that we were doing the right thing.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is great! cant wait to read more :)
I truly believe this trip will be a success and that we will raise awareness for the poor living conditions and racial discrimination in this country. The Aboriginal people deserve to have equal human rights and freedom. Thank you for writing this blog and for letting us know about the conditions that many Aboriginal people are forced to live in. I really hope that we can make a difference in their lives. Wishing you luck!
ReplyDeleteI cant wait for the trip, Im looking forward to raising awareness about the discrimination that we are faced with these days and how we aren't allowed to enter the same buildings as other people. Can't wait to see you there!! so excited!!!
ReplyDeleteAre all the locals accepting our your arrival? I hope the Freedom Rides are successful and able to spread many words of truth out into the towns you are visiting.
